For 75 years, Marlboro Music has been a place like no other — an idealistic experiment where extraordinary musicians gather to explore music in depth, across generations, in a spirit of discovery and collaboration.
Since their inception, Musicians from Marlboro tours have introduced international audiences to such great talents as Yefim Bronfman, Pamela Frank, Christian Tetzlaff, and Murray Perahia, among others. They have also included other exceptional artists now heard in the Brentano, Guarneri, Juilliard, St Lawrence and Ying Quartets and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
This year’s touring ensemble is led by founding and former first violinist of the Doric String Quartet, Alex Redington, and Jonathan Leibowitz, an emerging clarinetist hailed for his "ability to mesmerize the listener in everything he does" (BBC Music Magazine). At the heart of this touring program is music by two former Marlboro composers in residence: Brett Dean and Kaija Saariaho. The program culminates with Mozart's beloved Clarinet Quintet, a piece which gloriously blends operatic melodies for the clarinet with intimate string writing.
